The extensive setup they used to gauge the subjects performance included measurements of their brainwave patterns using EEG (electroencephalography), their heart rates using ECG (electrocardiography), their nerve condition and reaction time using EMG (electromyography), and their skin conductivity using EDA (electrodermal activity measurements).

The lab team took special care to ensure that none of the participants were on any other mind altering narcotics, instructing the subjects to abstain from consuming any food or caffeinated drinks three hours prior to the test, and to abstain from alcohol and smoking at least 12 hours prior to the experiment.
